Hi-Flyers News

The Hi-Flyers will be undergoing several noteworthy changes for the 2004 season that I would like to highlight. First, we will be adding two additional Minnesota Gopher wrestlers to our staff, Roger Kish from Michigan and Quincy Osborn from Grand Rapids, Minnesota. Roger was a redshirt freshman this year at the U of M and earned the distinction of being named the #1 high school recruit in the nation coming out of high school. Quincy earned the starting spot for the Gophers at 133 pounds this year, and will be looking to make his mark at the Big 10s and Nationals in March.

Another major change for 2004 is in our practice sites. This year we will be practicing at Wayzata High School and St. Michael/Albertville High School. All age groups will be practicing at both sites this year, so families can choose their site of convenience. With the addition of Roger and Quincy, this will give us six coaches, or three at each site. I truly believe that our coaching staff of Brandon Eggum, Chad Erickson, Ty Friederichs, Nate Baker, Roger Kish and Quincy Osborn is the top kid’s club coaching staff in the Nation.

The other major change for 2004 will be the addition of Folkstyle wrestling to our schedule. MN/USA folkstyle state will be in Rogers, Minnesota on  March 26th-28th for the Kids/Cadets age groups followed by Folkstyle Nationals in Cedar Falls, Iowa on April 2nd-4th. Therefore, we will be practicing Folkstyle for the month of March and then switching to Freestyle in April. Please see the enclosed schedule for tournaments we will be attending. We have reserved 50 hotel rooms in Cedar Falls, Iowa for families that will be attending the national tournament. Our coaching staff will be going to nationals and I would expect that most our wrestlers will be going as well. You can wait for the first day of practice to put your name on a room or check out our website for hotel information. I am personally very excited about the 2004 Hi-Flyer season. We have two great sites to practice at, we have the best coaching staff in the Nation and with MN/USA adding Folkstyle in March, our club can have those coaches teaching Folkstyle, Freestyle and a little Greco-Roman to our kids, all in one season.

On another note, I see that an amazing 22 of our wrestlers are currently ranked in the guillotine, with 5 wrestlers currently ranked #1. These are kids that have participated in either our Metro Monday program, our Spring Program or, in many cases, both programs. Good Luck to all of our high school wrestler in finishing up a successful season.
