Schlatter will be tasked with moving up two weight classes in his senior season, now at 165 rather than his usual 149. He will not come into the season inexperienced at the higher weight class, however, as he gained valuable experience wrestling in the 74 kg/163 lbs. weight class. Schlatter had much of last season off from competition, taking a redshirt season, getting his body healthy, while also training for the World Championships. With 100 wins in his career coming into his senior season, he has a chance to finish among the top-5 in career wins in Minnesota Wrestling history. The storyline of the season will be his quest for a second national title as he and teammate Jayson Ness look to become just the sixth and seventh four-time All-Americans in team history. With a NCAA title he will become the only wrestler in program history to bookend a career with individual national titles. With two Big Ten titles already in his resume, he will try to become just the seventh three-time Big Ten Champion in Gopher History.
